Preparing to use a ladder.

Before starting a task, always question that a ladder is suitable. If you do use a ladder ask a third party to help you with securing the base of the ladder.

Are you physically capable of using the ladder in the required setting?

Ensure that you are physically capable of working at a given height. This aspect is very important if you are elderly or not much good with heights.

Is your ladder the correct method of working at height?

Identify what tasks need to be performed at height before you climb the ladder. If you need to move around, or require access to materials or tools, or use heavy equipment, a ladder will not be sufficient. Safer to use a mobile tower or scaffolding unit.
